My time at 6th High School of Chalkida involved helping facilitate programs with English learners as part of the U.S. Embassy's ACCESS program.
In February we shared some information about Black History Month and did some activities together. Then my Distinguished Award in Teaching colleague, Rochelle Darville, organized an interesting and engaging women's history month program that I helped facilitate. The students are from a variety of immigrant and refugee backgrounds. They are committed and engaged learners. Munting Nayon Cultural Preschool in Athens was born out of the needs of Filipino immigrants who struggled to find childcare and preschool when they arrived as immigrants. For many years they faced discrimination and intimidation by neighbors. Now their preschool has a permanent home and welcomes children from Congo, Ethiopia, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Philippines, Indonesia and more.
Schedia programs have not been active during the pandemic, but resources are still available on their website: |
